Working in a gift shop this summer has really opened my eyes. Every day hundreds of people come through my line, buying thousands of dollars worth of cheap, useless crap--that undoubtly will be thrown away/broken within 6 months. I have people buying ugly ceramic bears for people who don't even want them, who've never even cared to see a bear--they tell me this--but they feel complelled to bring something home for each and every person they know. And don't even get me started on the Spin-a-mallows...I'm scarred from soveigners, for life. Yea, good article. Working in a gift shop this summer has really opened my eyes.
