For those of you that might not know, Leif and I started a monthly open mic/reading series called Soundlines. Last night, was the second Soundlines and it went fantastic. Truly, I can’t believe the caliber and quality of the readers. It’s really exciting. What is also exciting is that Leah only has final exams left. What is not exciting is that I don’t think this is going to be a caliber post. More of an update on the current goings-on. And even though I may not be being my normal and entertaining self. I do feel propelled to write about these things.
Side note: I know have gotten several emails from people and because I was at Soundlines last night I didn’t have a chance to reply. In particular, Curt—I have no idea. I’m not an SK resident anymore so I can’t even use it until I move back.
Soundlines did really go well. I have a real sense of accomplishment from it. And unlike some of the things I have organized in the past, I was really happy to see that everything worked out. It could have been a short evening. It could have been a lonely, small crowd. However, by night end, it was a pretty full pub and a lot of great poetry. And different styles. Plus, meeting new people is always interesting and fun.
I put one of MG’s lastest posts (“The Price of Life”) in my delicious links. But let me just pull a small tidbit from it.
As we’re all aware, over 30 innocent people were killed yesterday at Virginia Tech University… On Saturday, in Iraq, 176 people were killed and 345 more were injured. Today’s death toll stands at 69 thus far.
Single Onion. This Thursday I am reading at Single Onion. Oooh, check out that site, I’m on the front page. This is also the reading that I was in that magazine for. I am trying to prepare as many Soveran poems as I can. I am also planning, after that reading, to post the Soveran poems and probably—if all works out—record them as well. So that’s something to look forward to.
The website. I really enjoy blogging. And I arguably like messing around with the design here more than anything. I have been struggling with coming up with a design that I feel really comfortable with. I really enjoy this theme (unsleepable) but there is something about making it my own that is exciting. And I think I can mod this theme info, in theory, to something a little bit different. But for the rest of the week I really need to concentrate on finishing up the material I am going to read at Single Onion. So I will just have to keep dreaming about it until then.
Okay, so the real gritty stuff. Leah decided since she was done classes that we should celebrate last night. As a result, I am really tired, slightly hungover and my tummy won’t stop rumbling—so hungry, so henry. Which has directly influenced the sub par quality of this post. I personally blame Leah.
:smoke_tb:
Edit- I forgot to mention that I have pulled Text Link Ads. One, because I wasn’t selling any, but two, because that’s not what I want on my blog. I might decide in the future that I do. But for now, I am going to stick with just keeping this a pure website.
Maybe you should blame anything whose name starts will L!
Thanks for the good time.
See you Thurs.
Rhett,
You are awesome chocolate solutions for desperate ladies!
I hope you are well done rocking the caspah, etc.
Leif not efil
I, too, was hungry Tuesday–with a massive headache as well. Alas, it was well worth it! I hope work on Tuesday was okay . . .
Perhaps we should all celebrate the end of exams next week!
Yes, Tuesday was a bit of a write off as far as studying went…and needless to say I did not make it to my 8:15 class. But I agree, it was well worth it and the celebrations should indeed be renewed.
Is it just me or does Leif not make any sense?
