If you are paying attention to my little “Event Calendar” at the bottom of the page you will see that I just added another reading that I will be doing—Flywheel in May. But I will not be alone, no, I will not be alone. I will be performing my very first poetic duet. This duet is with non-other than the late, great Leif Baradoy. I don’t mean he’s dead. I just heard he might be pregnant. :laugh_tb:

Was that inappropriate? It’s my blog, so get lost if you don’t like it. No, no I’m sorry, come back. I’ll be nice. ME? NICE! Never!

Okay, I just ate a granola bar and I think I had a slight sugar fever and I was delirious because of the apple-cinnamon-y goodness.

As you also know because of the event calendar I am reading this summer at the South Country Fair. Now, before I go any further I need to explain what being a “rockstarpoet” is all about. My idea for being a rockstarpoet is that you have an ego. You put on a show. That doesn’t mean be a performance poet or spoken word or have anything that rhymes. What I mean is that if I compared myself, as a poet, to a musician I don’t currently get the perks. Musicians put on a show. If they are good they will engage the audience, be confident in their music and—broken record—put on a show. But I am starting to think this is easier said than done.

For the South Country Fair, I got on the phone with the organizer and he said you will have a 45 minute set. FORTY-FIVE MINUTES of my poetry??? Holy ****. First, I don’t even think I have enough poetry that I could read for 45 minutes. Second, would anyone actually want to listen to me for that long?

Well, this is where Leif and I had a brilliant idea (Leif is also reading at SCF and I am more brilliant than Leif). I wrote a poem and sent it to Leif. He replied with a poem. And so forth. Now, we will be giving Calgary a taste of our duet May 3. And I am pretty excited. This should aid when it comes to my 45 minute set at the SCF. Overall, I think it’s a really interesting project because writing is often such a solitary act and it really is challenging (but I do like it) to bring another person into that process.

Maybe poetry needs more duets. I guess I will find out soon enough.
