Last week, Curtis wanted something he could sink his teeth into. He wanted to come to this blog and find something to talk about. But all he found was me cooing over Leah. He said:

This is a blog, I thought you were supposed to write something controversial to spur conversation, how can you argue with cute wife!!

What’s in my content? I love the smell of meta-blogging in the morning (I recently re-watched Apocalypse Now!).

There are a lot of different types of bloggers. If you want to be a successful blogger you need to have a specific topic that you write on. From entertainment to tech/web stuff to politics to citylife and so on. I am a personal blogger—which is basically the antithesis of topic-based. Writing a personal blog and doing it well, I would say, is harder than topic-based. This is because it’s hard to make a personal life interesting enough to read when there is no melodrama to speak of. Whereas if you are a topic-based blogger the people who read your blog are people that are interested in the topic. And let me tell you something about personal bloggers. In my opinion, for the most part, they are uninteresting idiots. Idiots might be a bit strong. But uninteresting is pretty much bang on. And generally, the majority of personal bloggers are snubbed and ignored for that exact reason. Usually they post about…

Guess what I did on Saturday night? Well, I went out with Person A, B and C and then we met up with D, E and F. I met cute guy H. And then we all got drunk (or other activity that you have no real interest in).

This is not the type of blogger I am interested in being. Granted, I don’t write posts that are all winners. But I am going to come out and say that I am an interesting personal blogger. This is not an attempt to be egotistical, but I am confident in my overall blogging and Leah’s amazing ability to edit. Plus, the amount of people that visit this site is growing. But I am not interested in numbers. Alright, I am getting off topic—sort of.

I am interested in being a successful blogger, but I am not interested in topic-based blogging. There is nothing wrong with topic-based but the problem is that I don’t know anything. Unless I started an aquarium blog or a limited-knowledge-of-house-plants blog or maybe even a writing blog. Or I could do all those things and more under the banner of the personal blog. But the content must continue to be entertaining and strong.

I purposefully do not write controversy or opinion-blogs for the most part. Unless I get really upset about something. I love the internet but it is not the place for debate. It rarely goes well. It is, in my opinion, a place to share ideas and lives. So that’s what I do. That’s what I have decided this blog is about. And since I most likely know myself and those most immediate to me that’s what I blog about. If I start writing a diary… well this place will go down hill fast. Or maybe it would get better because it seems, for the most part, you are all voyeurs anyways. Damn lurkers.

Even though I am a personal blogger, I take a lot of time to read other blogs to get ideas—even the topic-based blogs, keep up on net trends, watch for new WordPress plugins and tricks and stay active in the web community. With the aid of the internet community, plus my mind, I will to continue to bring quality posts.

In conclusion, if you are blogging or want to, take some time to do some research (and don’t stop researching) and figure out what your blog is about. I’ll keep on with the personal epiphanies and revelations… for now.

Oh and…
