Barring explaining how the entire system works, yesterday I started work at 8:30 AM and finished at 11 PM. I am not complaining. The overtime money will be nice. But, for me, it’s not about just the money. I take pride in what I do. I want to do a good job.
Lastnight, I had to stay late because I had to format a 40 page earnings release, roughly costing the client some $6000. After 5 hours of working on it and it being finished, we had to call the client to check something and he said, something a long the lines of Oh, we only want 2 of those pages in the press release and the other pages for… (something else, which isn’t important and doesn’t require formatting). Everything I did was pointless.
I am not trying to be melodramatic or fishing for your sympathy. Really, I’m not.  Working in an office is very different from anything I have done. I can’t help but feel like this already semi-pointless job that I do, lastnight, became even more pointless.  Going to another office wouldn’t change anything. The same things happen everywhere, I know this. However, it has got me thinking that I need to get back to working with and for people as opposed to this corporate machine who happens to have amazing people working for it.Â
Oh, it’s a delicate, delicate balance for creative types, isn’t it?
