Yesterday I got an email from Curt B asking me about ChristmasFuture. I can’t remember what it said exactly but I think it was something along the lines of—ChristmasFuture looks cool. Are you involved with it?
You know what, Curt B, ChristmasFuture is cool. It’s for cool people. So you are out! Just kidding. On a more serious note, they don’t want your help Curt B. You are getting a bit too creepy with all the calls and emails and showing up outside ChristmasFuture’s house. Have I taken this joke as far as it can go? Stopped being funny a couple of sentences ago?
First, ChristmasFuture is cool and that wacky Leif that you see running around this place spreading his poetic nonsense works for them. ChristmasFuture is a non-profit that seeks to re-focus our Christmas/all spending and shift the donations to reputable projects. The goal is to find X amount of projects that are aimed at eliminating/relieving extreme poverty at Y amount of organizations (that are transparent and give constant updates on the process). Thus we can answer Z. Just kidding, I don’t know math.
Possibly the coolest thing about ChristmasFuture is that they are developing a software called DonorTrust that will enable giving and to be able to watch updates on the projects you donate too. Well, I suppose the software is cool, but the best part is that once complete the program will be open source—which means free for anyone, specifically for other charities to use. This is a real web 2.0 charity. Plus the program can integrate with social-networking sites like Facebook.
Where do I come in? I am the Blog Director for ChristmasFuture. I am leading a team of bloggers to keep the blog (main page) up-to-date on all the comings and goings of the organization. I also help with the press releases for ChristmasFuture. After several meetings and getting everything into place I have finally posted my first entry about last year’s pilot project.
So now you know a little about ChristmasFuture. I feel really good about this type of volunteering. I don’t like serving sandwiches. This is volunteering I can get behind. Also, if you have any questions I will be happy to answer or I am sure Leif is hovering somewhere nearby.
This looks amazing! Anybody that has not checked this out, do so. This is indisputably the greatest thing that the internet has ever conceived!
I don’t mean to give the internet the credit for doing this. Kudos, props, all good things to everyone that is working on this Christmas Future project!
I just realized that I used three exclamation marks in four sentences, and believe me I am pretty conservative with my exclamation mark use. Not to mention this is my third comment in 2 minutes, I am just really excited about this thing! See there is another one.
Looks very interesting, so what do I do? How can I help?
I’ll let Leif handle this. But, yes, it’s a great project to be a part of.
Rhett,
Can you forward Curtis my email. I’d love him to help spread the word about CF.
Leif
Rhett are you ready to give up opening presents? This would be a startling change for our family! Mom
Well that’s a good idea mom. I think moving towards that is a good idea. However, I can’t go cold turkey on presents. But re-thinking presents might be a worthwhile endeavour.
Leif: Yes, I can.
Just a note: Rhett can have and eat his cake.
CF actually allows people to open presents. It’s not just an “internet land” thing.
Yeah!
Once a salesman, always a salesman.
