Peanuts Without the Joke

Apr 1, 2011 By Rhett Soveran in Asides No Comments

I know I’m not supposed to be posting, but this is pretty fantastic. Are you feeling existential and want to take that further? Or are you not really sure what that deep, existential despair feels like? Just read a few Peanuts comics with the last “joke” panel cut out. Check out 3eanuts, a great tumblr blog.

Here’s an example:

A Few Thoughts on Marilyn Monroe

Feb 22, 2011 By Rhett Soveran in Asides No Comments

Today, I’m doing something new on Bailing Bucket. I did a guest post on Tara Scott’s Versus Boredom and she’s doing a guest post here about Facebook. So check out both my article on falling in love with Marilyn Monroe (or a Some Like It Hot review) and I’ll be publishing Tara’s story here momentarily.

Thinking About Blogging

Feb 16, 2011 By Rhett Soveran in Asides No Comments

Were you just wondering what I think about blogging and about this blog? Well, luckily, I partook in a “blind blog” over on my friend, Sona’s blog in a post titled: For the love of blogging. I was joined by a few other friends and a few strangers in a joint post where we were all asked the same questions, but we didn’t know each others answers—hence the “blind blog”. I hope you enjoy.

The Big Picture Reviews 2010

Dec 15, 2010 By Rhett Soveran in Asides 2 Comments

At this time of the year everyone is trying to get their top 10s and whatnot in for the year. The review of movies that I posted yesterday made me feel good. Today, it’s a bit mixed (but generally more sad). Check out pictures from 2010 that summarize some of the biggest events.

If you don’t already follow The Big Picture, check out their review of 2010 in pictures in three parts: one, two and three.

Biking in Bermuda

Dec 1, 2010 By Rhett Soveran in Asides No Comments

Not only is today the end of moustaches around the globe, but it’s also the day that my first story for print (in a while) is available for mass consumption in WestJet’s up! magazine.

While I was in Bermuda a few months ago I had the chance to explore Bermuda by bicycle on the Railway Trail. There’s a video too at the end of the article that I think is pretty fun(ny).

9 Pounds, 10 Ounces

Nov 18, 2010 By Rhett Soveran in Asides 3 Comments

Today one of my oldest friends had her first child. A baby boy who’s weighing in at 9 pounds, 10 ounces. You know how I know that I am a grown man? When I heard that my vagina hurt.

When you understand what 9 pounds, 10 ounces means and you can feel it—then you are a man.

Jesus, that’s a big boy.
